Recruiting Strategy

What the next five weeks of the recruiting calendar change.

Between May 24 and late June 2026, the NCAA football recruiting calendar shifts three times. The mechanics matter, but the advisory implications matter more.

The calendar mechanics, briefly

Three distinct phases unfold in roughly thirty days.

May 24 to 27 is a dead period. No in-person recruiting contact or evaluation is permitted on or off campus.

May 28 to June 21 is a quiet period. Only on-campus contact is permitted.

June 22 to July 31 is another dead period.

The spring contact period, which has run since April 15, ends May 23.

What changes for a 2027 athlete

Off-campus coach activity stops. The June 1 to 21 window is the heaviest official visit window of the cycle, because programs cannot leave campus but can host athletes who come to them. Families with active interest from a program should expect on-campus visit invitations rather than home visits or off-campus meetings during this stretch.

What changes for a 2028 athlete

June 15 is the first date 2028 recruits can receive verbal offers from FBS programs. That does not mean offers will arrive on June 15. It means offers can begin to arrive, and families who have been in evaluative conversations through spring camp season should expect more clarity about where they actually stand.

How to think about the next five weeks

Quiet stretches are not a sign of cooling interest. They are the calendar. A program that goes silent between May 24 and 27 is following the rules. A program that pivots to on-campus visits in June is doing what every program is doing.

For families, the more useful question is which on-campus visits to accept, which to decline, and which to defer until later in the cycle. The answer depends on actual program interest, academic fit, geographic reality, and what each visit is likely to clarify. Activity is not strategy. Movement is not momentum.
